A defamation case has been filed against Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury, editor of the controversial weekly newspaper Weekly Blitz, for allegedly publishing false and fabricated news against Alhaj Shamsul Hoque Foundation.
The case was lodged at Chattogram Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court by Engineer Muhammed Nasir Uddin, Chairman of Alhaj Shamsul Hoque Foundation.
In his statement, the Chairman said that Alhaj Shamsul Hoque Foundation (ASH Foundation) is a government-approved humanitarian and non-political NGO under the Prime Minister’s Office, holding Special Consultative Status with the UN ECOSOC. He alleged that Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury launched a false propaganda campaign against the organization centering on the construction of a mosque in a remote village of Nepal, which has severely tarnished the organization’s reputation as well as his own.
Plaintiff’s counsel, Advocate Abdus Sattar, President of the Chattogram District Bar Association, stated that the accused has caused irreparable social and reputational damage of ASH Foundation and its Chairman Muhammed Nasir Uddin through false, fabricated, and malicious reporting. The court has admitted the case and directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to conduct the probe.
